Accessing Information is almost impossible for the blind in Kenya

Recent survey shows how difficult it is for the blind in Kenya to access information via the local newspaper, television and the Kenya National Archives. The blind do not have access to the information published in the Kenya Gazette and the country’s dailies because is not published in Braille. The blind are left out during the ranking of the examinations results or elections in the televisions because they flash numerals on the screens and play music without voice assuming that even the blind can read what is written.

The Kenyan government and The Blind and Low Vision Network claim that they are taking steps to overcome these barriers for the blind. The question is how long will this take and if we can do something meanwhile to help this situation.
